Internet

Based on Google Gemini answer:

While the Internet's origins are more complex, it's important to note that the World Wide Web (WWW), a major component of the Internet, was invented by Tim Berners-Lee while working at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) in Geneva, Switzerland, in 1989. CERN then made the software publicly available in 1993, allowing the Web to flourish and become the foundation of the Internet as we know it today.

Elaboration:
  • CERN's Role:
CERN, an international research organization based in Geneva, provided the environment where Berners-Lee developed the World Wide Web.
  • Berners-Lee's Invention:
Berners-Lee, a British computer scientist, envisioned a way to share information and data efficiently among researchers, leading to the creation of the WWW.
  • Public Release:
CERN's decision to release the WWW software in 1993 was a pivotal moment, making it freely available for use and development by others.
  • The Internet's Evolution:
The Internet itself has a broader history, starting with the ARPANET in the 1960s, which evolved into the interconnected network we use today. The WWW, however, is a crucial layer of the Internet, enabling the browsing and sharing of information on a global scale.

Based on my general answer:

A network of computers linked one to each other through cables that are even in the ocean
and links different continents or computers communicating one with each other or by wireless
technology such as 5G mobile signal, signal broadcasted through local antena's from place to
place as long as range allows it covering an area. This is the mobile internet we use.
Different than this is the sattelite internet which are quite expensive as a dedicated line and
is certainly not used by your iPhone or Android, these using local antena's installed from
range to range so being possible to cover an area. You probably seen that in certain places
the mobile signal is very weak.

PS: I don't even know if internet travels through space.
